Sounds exotic to you? It is!
Translated from Hindi, "Shikakai" means "fruit for the hair". Traditionally, it has been used in Asia for centuries as an Ayurvedic hair care product.
When the fruit has been dried, it can be ground into a fine powder that resembles ground cinnamon in colour and texture.
This is what we call shikakai and yes, it is amazingly good at cleansing and conditioning the skin and hair.
Shikakai fruit gently cleanses and conditions the hair and is especially gentle on the scalp. These mild properties help reduce dandruff and can also stimulate hair growth. The saponins it contains also have an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect.
Similar to a conditioner, the Shikakai strengthens the hair and gives it more shine and fullness.
-Gives the hair volume, shine and fullness.
-Prevents irritation and dandruff
-Applies to the lengths and ends like a hair treatment
-Stimulates hair growth.
As you see the shikakai benefits for hair are countless!
So, is it possible to wash your hair without shampoo?
Of course! With Shikakai!
How to prepare it?
It's very simple! Mix 2 tablespoons of powder (adjusted according to the length of your hair) with hot water.
Add the water gradually and stir vigorously with a silicone whisk.
You must obtain a homogeneous mixture without lumps.
If there are lumps, a little secret is to add a tablespoon of sugar to remove them. When the mixture is ready, let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
Apply it to the skin and lengths, massage lightly and cover with a shower cap and woollen hat.
To use it as a simple shampoo, wash the pack after 20-30 minutes.
If you want to achieve a sebum-balancing effect, you can leave the pack on for up to 45 minutes.
To avoid drying the hair too much, you can add a tablespoon of honey to the pack. Have fun and enjoy your hair clean, healthy and strong!
