Rhubarb root is a natural hair dye that lends the strands yellow and gold hues. It is ideal for adding blond or golden hues to fair hair (blond or light brown) and offers good grey coverage. Rhubarb can be blended with other plant powder dyes to weaken their intensity or create delicate nuances.

Rhubarb root is also great when used as a hair mask for oily hair because it regulates sebum.

Application:

  • Use the powder on its own or mix with other plant powder dyes and water until a uniform cream is formed.
  • Cover and leave to sit for approximately 20 minutes.
  • Start applying the dye to dry or slightly damp hair around the hairline and gently massage.
  • Then distribute the dye into the lengths of the hair.
  • Leave on for 20 - 50 minutes (the paste starts to dye the hair after approximately 20 minutes).
  • Rinse thoroughly and cleanse with shampoo.

INFORMATION ABOUT HERBAL HAIR COLORS & POWDERS

When using herbal hair colors and powders, some basic things to consider are:

  • Herbal hair colors to fit like a film around each hair, which is why your natural hair color significantly influences the results.
  • Dyeing a test strand is strongly recommended!
  • Using plant-based dye on chemically colored hair can lead to unexpected results. Again, make sure you sample color a test streak!
  • Bleached or lightened hair is very responsive to herbal hair colors and powder: the colors could be more intense or could react with the chemical color to produce a green, blue or even purple color.
  • Basically it is not recommended to use the natural dyes with bleached or lightened hair as the color results could have extreme deviations
  • Please visit a competent hairdresser familiar with herbal hair colors if you would like to use the dye on bleached or lightened hair.
  • Herbal hair colors cannot make your hair lighter or bleach it. Only chemical colors can lighten your hair color.
  • Plant powder hair colors such as Senna, Cassia, Jerusalem thorn, etc., are simple  to use and require no special measures.
  • When dying chemically treated, permed, or chemically dyed hair, make sure to test a strand of hair first!

Herbal hair colors and powders should be mixed only in a bowl/ with utensils made of glass, ceramics or wood, as these natural products react with metal and can therefore lead to undesired color results.
